Clinical Context

HIV-1 infection remains a global health challenge, with millions of individuals living with the virus. Current treatment regimens typically involve a combination of antiretroviral drugs that target different stages of the HIV life cycle. Doravirine, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI), has previously set a new standard in the NNRTI class due to its efficacy and tolerability. Islatravir, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase translocation inhibitor (NRTTI), offers a novel mechanism of action. The combination of these two agents in Idvynso aims to enhance treatment outcomes while minimizing potential side effects, addressing a critical need for effective HIV therapies that can be easily integrated into existing treatment plans.
