Clinical Context

HIV-1 infection remains a major global health challenge, with millions of people living with the virus. Current treatment regimens often involve multiple antiretroviral drugs, which can complicate adherence and increase the risk of side effects. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that all individuals diagnosed with HIV should begin antiretroviral therapy (ART) as soon as possible to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with the infection. Despite advancements in treatment, barriers to adherence remain, particularly in resource-limited settings. The introduction of a two-drug regimen, such as doravirine and islatravir, aims to address these challenges by providing a more streamlined and potentially more tolerable option for patients.
